Jammu and Kashmir: Ganderbal Thang-Ta Championship Concludes with Display of Martial Arts Prowess

The District Ganderbal Thang-Ta Championship 2026, a two-day event showcasing the traditional martial art, concluded on June 20, 2026, at the Indoor Stadium Sehpora in Ganderbal.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the championship, organised by the District Ganderbal Thang-Ta Association and supported by the J&K Sports Council, brought together approximately 250 participants from various schools, clubs, and training centres across the district. The event highlighted the participants’ exceptional talent, discipline, and sportsmanship in Thang-Ta.

The closing ceremony featured Mir Mushtaq, Provincial President of JKYNC Kashmir Province, as the Chief Guest. He extended congratulations to all the athletes for their commendable performances and underscored the pivotal role of sports in fostering character development and promoting youth engagement.

In the competitive results, the Khelo India Thang-Ta Centre, Lar, secured the championship title. Alamdar-e-Kashmir School, Ganderbal, was declared the runner-up, while Qamaria Model Higher Secondary School, Ganderbal, achieved the second runner-up position.

The organisers conveyed their appreciation to the J&K Sports Council, along with the officials, coaches, volunteers, participants, and supporters, acknowledging their contributions to the event’s successful culmination. Trophies, medals, and certificates were presented to the winners and outstanding performers during the closing ceremony.
