A 13-year-old goalkeeper from Melbourne, who traces her ancestry to Punjab, has earned a spot to represent her team at the upcoming under-14 Junior State Hockey Championship in Australia. Parineeti Mall, playing for the Southern Sharks, brings a strong Punjabi heritage to the national junior sporting stage.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Parineeti’s parents, Shinder Pal and Kamaljit Kaur, migrated from Ludhiana and Nawanshahr, respectively, in 2009. They sought enhanced opportunities in Australia, and their daughter’s sporting selection marks a significant achievement for the family.
Despite neither parent having a background in professional sports, Parineeti displayed an early aptitude for hockey, developing into a promising goalkeeper. Her athletic prowess extends beyond the hockey field, as she also demonstrates considerable skill in soccer.
Beyond her sporting pursuits, Parineeti is recognized for her vibrant Bhangra performances within the local community. Her mother, Kamaljit Kaur, expressed pride in her daughter’s multifaceted talents, noting that Parineeti is also a proficient Bhangra dancer who is often sought after to teach the traditional folk dance.
Parineeti harbours aspirations of representing Australia on the international stage and aims to secure a position in the national hockey team. She is dedicated to rigorous training to achieve this ambition, while also maintaining a strong academic record. Her mother indicated that Parineeti is academically inclined and has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in neurology.
The young athlete maintains a deep connection to her Punjabi roots, speaking the language fluently and cherishing her cultural heritage. Her maternal uncle, Manjit Bali, residing in Nawanshahr, shared that her achievement has brought honour to the family. Members of the Daily Morning Football Club, where Bali is associated, celebrated Parineeti’s success.
The chairman of the Daily Morning Football Club, Tarsem Lal, commented on the pride Parineeti’s accomplishment has brought to her parents and its contribution to putting Punjab on an international platform through her success. The family continues to support her dual focus on sports and education as she progresses in her chosen fields.
