SRINAGAR: A fire that erupted in the Tabardar Mohalla area of Khanyar, Srinagar, in the early hours of Saturday has caused significant damage to two residential houses. The blaze was reported around 3 am, prompting an immediate response from fire services.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the State Fire Control Room at Batamaloo received the alert about the fire. Following the notification, fire tenders were dispatched from Fire Stations Babdemb, Rainawari, and MR Gunj. Teams from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Headquarters also joined the operation at the scene.

Officials stated that the narrow and congested layout of the Khanyar locality posed challenges to the firefighting efforts. Additional fire tenders were deployed to reinforce the operation and contain the flames effectively.

The fire extensively damaged a four-storeyed residential house. The third floor and the attic of this structure were completely gutted. The ground and second floors also sustained damage due to heat, smoke, and the water used in extinguishing the fire. A neighbouring three-storeyed house also experienced partial damage as a consequence of the incident.

The firefighting operation was conducted under the supervision of Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar. Senior officers from the department were present on the ground, overseeing the efforts to bring the situation under control.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is currently under investigation by the Fire and Emergency Services department.
