Baramulla Hosts Zoon Run Marathon, Over 800 Athletes Compete

Baramulla town on Sunday reverberated with athletic fervor as the Zoon Run, part of the Festival of Baramulla, concluded with more than 800 participants engaging in 5-km, 10-km, and 21-km races. The event saw accomplished runners from across the country vying for top honors, culminating in a festive atmosphere with the felicitation of winners.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that top performers were awarded cash prizes during the closing ceremony. In the half marathon, Hansraj secured the men’s title with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 30 seconds, while Sonya Mohan Pramanik claimed the women’s race in 1 hour, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds. The 10-km men’s overall victory went to Ajay Kumar, who finished in 32 minutes and 41 seconds, with Shamshad Bano leading the women’s category at 49 minutes and 42 seconds.

Barkat Ali and Harmehar Kaur emerged as the winners in the men’s and women’s 5-km categories, respectively. Prizes were also distributed to the top three finishers in various age groups across all competitive distances.

Race Director Chandeep Singh highlighted the significant participation and the high level of competition, attributing it to the presence of accomplished athletes from various parts of India. He stated that this year’s edition was particularly competitive due to the calibre of the participants.

The Zoon Run, integrated into the broader Festival of Baramulla, attracted runners from diverse regions of the country. The event featured distinct competitions for male and female participants across four designated age brackets. The 5-km race garnered the largest number of participants, with approximately 350 runners, including over 120 women, taking part in the community event.

Adding to the spirited occasion, a special run for nearly 40 children under the age of 10 was organized, drawing considerable encouragement and applause from the assembled spectators.
