SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, has commissioned a new Automatic Rain Gauge (ARG) at an NHPC station in Kishtwar, enhancing the region’s capabilities for precise weather monitoring and forecasting.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the newly installed system is now operational and will continuously transmit real-time rainfall data. This advancement is expected to significantly improve the accuracy of weather predictions, particularly during periods of heavy precipitation and the ongoing monsoon season.
The installation of the Automatic Rain Gauge is a crucial step in bolstering the weather observation network across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials stated that the live data generated by the ARG will empower forecasters to issue more timely and accurate weather advisories, which are vital for disaster preparedness and response efforts.
In addition to improving forecasts, the system is designed to aid concerned agencies in making informed decisions during extreme weather events. The enhanced monitoring capability in Kishtwar district will contribute to a better assessment of local weather patterns and their potential impact.
The Meteorological Centre has been actively working to strengthen its weather monitoring infrastructure by integrating advanced systems. The deployment of the Automatic Rain Gauge in Kishtwar is part of a broader initiative to modernize weather observation across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring more reliable data collection and analysis for the benefit of the public and disaster management authorities.
