Srinagar, July 06: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday felicitated 32 talented recipients of the Kashmir Women’s Organization (KWO) Fellowship at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar, highlighting women’s empowerment as a critical pillar for the development of a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Lieutenant Governor, in his address, lauded the fellows, describing them as symbols of Jammu and Kashmir’s ongoing transformation towards a future grounded in self-confidence, equal opportunities, and dignity for all citizens.
He commended the efforts of Dr. Fida Firdous and the entire Kashmir Women’s Organization for establishing a strong platform that enables women from the region, referred to as Nari Shakti, to advance with confidence, leveraging their talents, ideas, and identities to contribute meaningfully to the region’s bright future.
“In a short span, Kashmir Women’s Organization has earned the distinction of becoming a powerful hub of hope, trust, and positive change. This fellowship program is a tangible realization of collaborative and shared responsibility,” the Lieutenant Governor stated.
Sinha noted that these fellows have redefined possibilities by challenging deeply entrenched stereotypes, thereby forging a new path for future generations. Their contributions, he added, will serve as a foundational source of inspiration, confidence, and guidance for years to come.
The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to historical female figures from Jammu and Kashmir, including Rani Didda, Kota Rani, Lal Ded, Habba Khatoon, and Mata Rupa Bhawani, whose legacies have shaped the region’s consciousness and contributed to its development. He emphasized that the women of Jammu and Kashmir have consistently demonstrated immense strength and capability.
“We have many such remarkable examples before us, and I wish for the women of Jammu Kashmir to lead the region’s development,” Sinha remarked, expressing his aspiration for women to spearhead the region’s progress.
He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for empowering the women of Jammu and Kashmir by ensuring they receive their due rights and by working to eliminate discrimination.
Outlining a progressive vision for the Union Territory, the Lieutenant Governor articulated his belief that women leaders will drive its advancement. “Women’s empowerment is key to a Viksit J&K; their progress ensures the progress of society,” he asserted.
He envisioned a Jammu and Kashmir where women are at the forefront of academia, industry, social organizations, and governance, actively shaping policies, fostering entrepreneurship, and enriching the region’s culture through art and literature. “I envision a Jammu Kashmir where every young girl grows up believing that her dreams are valuable, her voice is powerful, and her future holds limitless possibilities,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence that the KWO fellowship program will promote the fundamental principle that women deserve equal and dignified participation across all social, cultural, economic, and political spheres. He stressed the importance of maintaining a steadfast resolve to accord due respect to women while creating an environment that nurtures their capabilities and advancement.
“When women progress, society progresses; when women lead, the nation scales new heights, and when women realize their dreams, the entire world becomes more just, more compassionate, and more prosperous,” Sinha stated.
Addressing a significant societal challenge, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the rising concern of substance abuse among women and urged the fellows to undertake a comprehensive, region-specific analysis to identify its root causes. Such a study, he explained, would significantly strengthen rehabilitation frameworks and provide crucial support to women affected by drug addiction.
The Lieutenant Governor also acknowledged and commended the mentors who guided the fellows throughout the fellowship program. He expressed hope that the dedication of the Kashmir Women’s Organization members would act as a catalyst for positive change in the lives of numerous women in the coming years.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also released a book titled “Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipal Council in India,” authored by Dr. Nazrul Islam.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Dr. Fida Firdous, President of the Kashmir Writers Association; Dr. Darakshan Hassan Bhat, President of the Kashmir Women’s Organization; members of both organizations; and senior government officials.
