A machine operator lost his life when the excavator he was operating for a road construction project plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Monday evening. The accident occurred in the Gajpath Qillah area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Chanderkote Police Station.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that police received details about the incident around 8:30 PM. A swift rescue operation was subsequently launched by the Ramban Police, with support from Civil Quick Response Team (QRT) volunteers.
According to official statements from the police, the L&T excavator reportedly skidded off the road and rolled down the steep gorge. The operator became trapped beneath the heavily damaged machinery. Following arduous efforts, rescuers utilized a JCB machine to clear the wreckage and successfully retrieve the body of the operator.
The deceased has been identified as Akhtar Hussain, son of Hussain Khanday, who was a resident of Kahara in the Doda district. Police have formally registered a case concerning the incident and have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.
