SRINAGAR: Two lecturers serving the School Education Department have been killed in a road accident that occurred in Magam, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident has prompted the Union Territory’s Education Minister to express profound grief and call for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the deceased have been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Malik, a Physics lecturer, and Shabir Ahmad Dar, a Chemistry lecturer. Both individuals hailed from the Gulmarg constituency.
The accident took place in Magam, a locality within the Kashmir Valley, where the vehicle carrying the lecturers was involved in a collision. While the precise cause of the accident remains under investigation, the loss has cast a pall over the education sector in the region.
Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo, in a statement issued on Tuesday, conveyed her deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Malik and Dar. She extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for strength for them to endure their immense loss.
“May Almighty Allah grant them the highest place in Jannat and give strength to their loved ones to bear this irreparable loss,” Minister Itoo stated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sharing her condolences.
Beyond expressing sympathy, the Education Minister has taken a firm stance by urging the relevant authorities to conduct a “fair, transparent and impartial enquiry” into the incident. This directive aims to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and identify any potential contributing factors, ensuring accountability and possibly implementing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The Ministry of Education in Jammu and Kashmir has also initiated steps to gather all pertinent information regarding the accident. Officials are reportedly coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency services to compile a comprehensive report. The focus is on understanding the sequence of events, the condition of the road, and any other elements that may have played a role in the fatal crash.
The incident highlights the persistent concerns regarding road safety in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and implement traffic regulations, road accidents continue to claim lives, particularly in remote and hilly terrains. Authorities have previously acknowledged the challenges posed by the region’s geography and the need for continuous vigilance and enhanced safety measures.
The deaths of the two educators underscore the fragility of life and the impact such tragedies have on families and the community. Lecturers Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Shabir Ahmad Dar were integral members of the teaching fraternity, contributing to the education of students in the Gulmarg area. Their loss is keenly felt by their colleagues and the students they served.
The demand for a comprehensive inquiry is seen as a crucial step towards not only understanding this specific incident but also towards reinforcing the commitment to road safety across the Union Territory. The findings of the investigation are expected to provide valuable insights and potentially lead to the implementation of stricter safety protocols for public transportation and private vehicles operating on regional roads.
