Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, recently hosted a comprehensive workshop focused on enhancing digital accessibility for individuals with low vision. The event, organized by the Higher Education for Persons With Special Needs (HEPSN) wing of the college in collaboration with EnAble India, a Bengaluru-based non-profit organization, aimed to equip participants with essential digital skills and assistive technologies.
Empowering Through Technology
The day-long workshop provided practical training on a range of Android and Windows accessibility features. These included screen magnification, font enlargement, high-contrast displays, dark mode, and the use of screen readers. Assistive technologies designed to improve digital access for education, employment, and daily life were also demonstrated.
Approximately 20 participants, comprising government employees, corporate professionals, job seekers, and students, benefited from the program. The training was conducted by Y. Rajesh, Senior Executive at EnAble India, along with trainers Keerthan Kumar, Bhuvaneswari, and Nagababu. Participants gained hands-on experience with tools that can enhance their productivity and independence in various aspects of their lives.

Feedback from participants underscored the value of the workshop. G. V. Lakshmi Priya, a senior accountant, shared that the training enabled her to customize digital devices for more comfortable and productive work. Mohamad Abbas, a B.Tech graduate seeking employment, expressed increased confidence in using accessibility tools for competitive examinations and the workplace. The participants collectively appreciated the practical nature of the program and expressed confidence that the newly acquired digital skills would significantly enhance their academic, professional, and personal lives.

The workshop is part of ongoing efforts by Andhra Loyola College, through its HEPSN wing, to foster an inclusive educational environment and bridge the digital divide for students with special needs. The college has a history of collaborating with organizations like EnAble India to provide advanced employability courses and assistive technologies, empowering visually and physically challenged students to pursue higher education and secure employment opportunities. Past initiatives have included training on specialized software and providing platforms for job readiness, leading to placements in various corporate sectors.
