The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced an ex gratia relief of ₹6 lakh for the next of kin of each individual who lost their life in recent rain-related incidents across the districts of Rajouri and Poonch. This financial assistance is intended as an immediate measure to support the bereaved families.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the announcement follows a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Sunday evening. The meeting addressed the aftermath of devastating flash floods, landslides, and other weather-related events that have affected the twin districts, resulting in multiple fatalities and considerable damage to both public and private property.
During the review meeting, the Chief Minister expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives. While acknowledging that no amount of financial assistance can fully compensate for the irreparable loss, the government has pledged its full support to the affected families during this difficult period.
The ex gratia package is structured to provide ₹4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an additional ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF). This combined sum aims to offer substantial immediate support to those who have suffered the loss of loved ones.
The Chief Minister directed the administration to ensure that relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected families are carried out with utmost urgency. He emphasized that all possible assistance must reach the victims without any delay. Furthermore, he underscored the necessity for coordinated efforts among all concerned government departments to swiftly restore essential services and expedite ongoing relief measures in the areas impacted by the natural calamities.
The flash floods and landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, have caused significant disruption in Rajouri and Poonch. Local authorities have been engaged in rescue and relief operations since the incidents occurred, assessing the damage and providing immediate aid to those affected.
