Gold prices experienced a significant ascent in futures trading on Wednesday, with the August contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) marking an increase of Rs 1,580. The contract reached Rs 1,44,463 per 10 grams, buoyed by fresh buying activity and consistent demand in the physical market.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the August gold contract saw a 1.11 per cent rise during the trading session. The business turnover for this contract amounted to 790 lots, indicating a renewed and active interest from market participants in the precious metal.

Market analysts have attributed this upward trajectory to the creation of new positions by traders. This activity is directly linked to the sustained and strong demand for gold observed within the domestic Indian market, suggesting a preference for the asset as an investment or hedge.

The upward trend in domestic gold prices was further reinforced by a similar movement in international markets. Gold futures traded in New York also recorded gains, rising by 1.23 per cent to reach USD 4,127.3 per ounce. This global upturn provided additional impetus to the domestic price increases.

The performance of domestic gold futures has broadly mirrored the gains seen in global bullion markets. The continued buying interest from investors and consumers alike has been a primary factor contributing to the upward momentum and the current elevated price levels of the precious metal.

In parallel, silver prices also showed an upward trend. The August silver contract on MCX climbed Rs 150, settling at Rs 74,524 per kilogram. Similar to gold, this movement was supported by fresh speculative buying and increased demand in physical markets, reflecting a broader positive sentiment for precious metals.

The trading activity for silver futures involved a turnover of 2,204 lots. The demand for silver, particularly in the spot market, has seen an uptick, contributing to its price appreciation. Analysts suggest that the convergence of factors, including global market trends and domestic consumption patterns, is driving the current rally in both gold and silver prices.
