SRINAGAR – The annual Amarnath Yatra is proceeding via the Baltal route, with the Pahalgam axis temporarily closed for essential repair and maintenance operations necessitated by recent rainfall. The administration announced the decision on Saturday, emphasizing safety and logistical arrangements.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, stated the closure of the Pahalgam route was a precautionary measure following heavy rains that impacted portions of the pilgrimage path. Urgent restoration work is deemed necessary to ensure the safety of devotees undertaking the holy journey.
“Due to the recent rains, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the Pahalgam Axis of Shri Amarnathji Yatra. The Yatra shall continue through the Baltal Axis, for which adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage,” Garg said in a statement.
The Divisional Commissioner further assured that comprehensive arrangements have been made along the Baltal axis to facilitate the uninterrupted continuation of the pilgrimage and the safe passage of devotees. The focus remains on ensuring the well-being of all participants amidst the challenging weather conditions.
The temporary closure specifically affects the Pahalgam route, while the Baltal axis remains fully operational. This strategic decision aims to minimize disruption to the overall Yatra while allowing for critical infrastructure repairs.
The pilgrimage has seen a significant number of devotees participate this year, with over 3.95 lakh pilgrims having offered prayers at the Holy Amarnath Cave Shrine thus far.
