Srinagar, July 27: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against an individual accused of defrauding a man by promising a lucrative computer operator job in Cambodia, only for the victim to be allegedly forced into online scamming activities upon arrival.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the EOW Kashmir submitted the chargesheet in connection with FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan. The case was presented before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint alleging that the accused had fraudulently enticed the complainant with the prospect of a Computer Operator position in Cambodia, offering a monthly salary of ₹90,000. According to the complaint, the victim transferred a significant sum of money, amounting to lakhs of rupees, into the accused’s bank account. Additionally, the complainant incurred substantial expenses for visa processing, travel, and other associated costs, believing the job offer to be legitimate.
However, upon reaching Cambodia, the complainant reported being coerced into participating in online scamming operations rather than being provided with the employment that was promised. The investigation conducted by the EOW Kashmir reportedly established the veracity of these allegations.
The EOW has advised the general public to exercise caution and remain vigilant against such economic frauds. Individuals who have been victims of economic fraud or are aware of similar incidents are encouraged to report them to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch J&K). Complaints can also be submitted via email to sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in.
This case highlights the increasing sophistication of transnational job scams, where individuals are lured by false promises of high-paying employment abroad, only to be exploited or forced into illegal activities. Authorities are working to apprehend those involved in such fraudulent schemes and to provide recourse for victims.
