Police in Baramulla district, north Kashmir, have arrested two individuals on suspicion of gang-raping a young woman, filming the assault, and subsequently sharing the footage. The arrests were made following a complaint filed by the survivor on July 25.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the survivor approached the Baramulla Police Station to report the alleged incident. She stated that while she and a male friend were at Jalsheeri Drangbal, they were accosted by two men. The accused reportedly harassed the pair, assaulted them, and then sexually assaulted the woman, recording the act on video. Authorities indicated that the accused later showed the recording to others.
The investigation presented initial challenges as the survivor could only identify the accused by their first names. However, through a dedicated investigation combining technical evidence and human intelligence, the police successfully identified the suspects. The two arrested individuals have been identified as Shakir Ahmed Lone and Mohammed Ashraf, both residents of Jalsheeri and employed as drivers. Mohammed Ashraf, aged 27, is married.
Both accused are currently in police custody. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, stated at a press conference that the investigation is proceeding impartially and within a legally mandated timeframe. Further details have not been released by the police as the investigation is ongoing.
