Bengaluru is set to host the 10th edition of its highly anticipated Bengaluru Poetry Festival (BPF) on August 1 and 2, 2026. The two-day event, scheduled to take place at the Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha, promises a vibrant celebration of language, rhythm, and storytelling, bringing together poets, lyricists, and enthusiasts from across India.
A Dedicated Platform for Poetry
Co-founder of the festival, Subodh Sankar, reflected on the journey of the BPF, which began in 2016 with a simple vision: to create a dedicated space for poetry. In a landscape where fiction and non-fiction often dominate literary festivals, the BPF aimed to give poetry its own spotlight, dedicating two full days to the art form. Sankar acknowledged the initial uncertainty about the festival’s survival but expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Bengaluru’s audiences, which has been instrumental in reaching this tenth-edition milestone.
This year’s festival places a significant emphasis on the beauty of Indian languages, aiming to showcase the breadth, depth, and richness of poetic traditions across the country. The programming will feature poets representing at least 15 different Indian languages, reflecting a conscious effort to highlight linguistic diversity within Indian poetry. Prominent speakers for the 10th edition include Devdutt Pattanaik, who will deliver a keynote talk on Indic traditions of poetry; Kannada actor Ramya, who will discuss poetry that has inspired her life; and actor-director Prakash Raj, known for his poetry and spoken-word performances.
Evolving with the Times
Sankar noted that while the core vision of the festival remains unchanged—to provide a dedicated platform for poetry—the programming has evolved to embrace new ways in which poetry is written and consumed. The rise of spoken word poetry and social media has made poetry more accessible and popular among younger audiences, a trend that the festival acknowledges without altering its fundamental approach to showcasing poetic talent.
The festival has consistently attracted a diverse audience, with attendees ranging from seasoned poets to young aspiring writers. This inclusivity is a hallmark of the BPF, fostering a safe space for expression and connection. Beyond the main stage events, which include readings, performances, and discussions, the festival also incorporates workshops designed to deepen participants’ engagement with poetry and the craft of writing. Author Natasha Badhwar will lead a poetry workshop focusing on slowing down and paying attention to the rhythms, images, and emotions within poetry.
