New Delhi: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Delhi Police’s Railway Unit has busted an alleged interstate cocaine racket, arresting two Nigerian nationals and seizing over two kilograms of cocaine estimated to be worth approximately ₹20 crore. The seizure was made during a coordinated anti-narcotics drive aimed at intercepting drug traffickers and peddlers operating between Mumbai and the Delhi-NCR region.
The operation, conducted on July 31, involved the Special Staff of the Railway Unit and police personnel from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. During intensive patrolling, a police team noticed two women exhibiting suspicious behaviour and carrying luggage on platform number 1 of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Following standard legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police searched the women.
The search led to the recovery of 11 packets containing cocaine from one of the accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as Chikanso James and Happiness Okoye, both Nigerian nationals. Officials stated that this seizure represents a major success for the Railway Unit, effectively disrupting a key interstate supply network and preventing a substantial quantity of contraband from entering the illegal market.
During sustained interrogation, Chikanso James reportedly disclosed that the seized cocaine had been collected from the Vikaspuri area in West Delhi. The police are currently intensifying efforts to trace the financial trails associated with the operation and to establish both backward and forward linkages within the broader interstate narcotics syndicate. Investigators are also examining the extent of the accused’s involvement, specifically whether they acted merely as couriers or were directly connected to an organized drug distribution network spanning across Mumbai, Delhi, and potentially other states.
This bust highlights the persistent challenge posed by interstate drug trafficking networks, which often exploit transportation hubs like railway stations to move large quantities of illicit substances. The Delhi Police have indicated that their investigation is ongoing, with the aim of uncovering the full scope of the syndicate and apprehending all individuals involved.
