The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has formally requested a response from the Principal Secretary of the Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training (DTE) regarding allegations of irregularities in recruitments and the granting of affiliations by IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU).
The inquiry stems from a complaint lodged by Kapurthala Municipal Councillor Amardeep Gujral, who submitted documentation to the Vigilance Bureau detailing alleged discrepancies in university recruitments and the university’s affiliation processes for private colleges. According to details received by The Chenab Times, Gujral’s complaint specifically points to alleged violations of recruitment norms and statutory procedures in the hiring of Technical Assistants.
The complaint asserts that the recruitment process was allegedly altered through unilateral decisions, bypassing the mandatory approval of the University’s Board of Governors. It further claims that interviews, which carried significant weightage of 40 marks, were conducted despite a Punjab Government policy that restricts interviews for Group B, C, and D posts. Candidates were reportedly not allowed to retain copies of question papers or answer sheets for verification against the official answer key. A further allegation states that a single set of question papers was utilized across the entire examination, raising concerns about fairness and standardization.
The complaint also highlighted issues concerning the recruitment of nearly 40 candidates from the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, alleging that their interviews commenced after official working hours without proper record-keeping. Moreover, it was alleged that no practical or skill assessments were conducted for these technical positions, despite the nature of the roles.
Beyond the recruitment irregularities, the complaint also raised questions regarding the affiliation process for private colleges intending to offer Allied and Healthcare courses for the 2025 academic session. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau issued its formal request for comments on Sunday. The letter requested that if any action was to be initiated by the Vigilance Bureau, a clear recommendation be sent to their office. The Vigilance Bureau has indicated that it has not yet commenced a formal inquiry into the matter.
