Amritsar police have apprehended three individuals in two separate operations, confiscating a total of 12.24 kilograms of heroin. The seizures were made on Tuesday by the Gharinda police, who also recovered packaging material suggesting the contraband was air-dropped via drone.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that in the first instance, Jasbir Singh alias Monu and Amritpal Singh alias Mota, both residents of Rangarh village near the border, were arrested. Acting on a tip-off regarding their alleged large-scale heroin supply activities, the police intercepted the duo near Gharinda Chowk. They were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle with a heroin consignment intended for an undisclosed client.
According to police reports, the suspects attempted to evade capture by turning their motorcycle around and fleeing but were ultimately apprehended. A subsequent search of their possessions yielded three packets. Two of these packets contained heroin, weighing 5 kg 20 grams and 5 kg 10 grams respectively, amounting to a total of 10 kg 30 grams of the drug. The third packet contained packing material, which investigators believe points to a drone drop method of delivery.
In a second operation, the Gharinda police arrested Bikramjit Singh alias Bikka, a resident of Attari Kacha Qila. Information received by the authorities suggested that Bikramjit Singh was involved in heroin trafficking and was en route to deliver a consignment from the defense drain area near Hardo Rattan village towards Attari.
A police team established a checkpoint near the canal at Hardo Rattan village. Based on the informer’s description, officers intercepted a man walking along a dirt track. A search of his belongings led to the discovery of 1 kg 940 grams of heroin, along with accompanying packing material, as reported by police sources.
Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to unravel the alleged supply network of the arrested individuals, identify their clientele, and trace the origin of the seized heroin. The operations highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking in the region.
