A court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has handed down a 20-year prison sentence to a man convicted of raping a five-year-old girl. The conviction followed a trial that concluded with the court finding the accused guilty of the heinous crime.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident occurred on July 17, 2025, when the victim was playing outside her home in the jurisdiction of the Baradari police station. The convicted individual, identified as Mukesh Gupta, aged 50, who resided in the same neighborhood, reportedly lured the child away with a candy. He then took her to his residence where the sexual assault took place.
Following the harrowing experience, the young girl recounted the ordeal to her mother. This disclosure prompted the mother to file a police complaint, leading to the swift arrest of Mukesh Gupta. The case was then pursued by the prosecution under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Special Judge Narendra Prakash, presiding over the POCSO court, heard the arguments and evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense. After careful consideration, the judge delivered the verdict on Tuesday, finding Mukesh Gupta guilty of the charges. The court pronounced a sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
