Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury Offers Support to Content Creator Shraddha Singh Amidst Online Abuse

Congress Member of Parliament Renuka Chowdhury has publicly voiced her support for content creator Shraddha Singh, who has been facing significant online backlash, including rape and death threats, following a viral video. The gesture of solidarity comes after Singh shared details of the profound impact the controversy has had on her personal and professional life.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Ms. Chowdhury shared a message on her Instagram story extending her encouragement to the young creator. “Dear Shraddha, You are a young powerful voice of India with immense courage. You don’t need to get cowed down by all this. I would be happy to hire you as my Yoga Teacher!” Ms. Chowdhury wrote.

The public support from the Congress MP follows an exclusive interview given by Shraddha Singh to The Tribune newspaper. In the interview, the 23-year-old creator detailed how the controversy had forced her to cease her yoga teaching activities and had negatively impacted her career prospects as clients began to distance themselves. Singh revealed that she had stopped attending yoga classes and going out normally due to fear, often remaining indoors to avoid recognition.

Singh further explained that the threats had made her feel unsafe when alone, leading her to take precautions such as wearing a mask, cap, and sunglasses when venturing outside and often seeking accompaniment from a friend. The online abuse and threats have compelled her to alter her daily life significantly.

During her interview, Shraddha Singh maintained that she had not intended to abuse anyone in the now-deleted video. She expressed remorse and apologised after realizing that many viewers had found the content inappropriate. She also stated that the experience had served as a valuable life lesson and that she would refrain from participating in protests in the future.

Ms. Chowdhury’s endorsement marks one of the first significant political acknowledgments of Shraddha Singh’s situation since the controversy gained widespread attention. The creator had recently spoken out about the loss of work and the sustained online harassment she has endured as a direct consequence of the viral video incident.
