A 35-year-old resident of Delhi allegedly staged his own kidnapping to evade pressure from loan recovery agents and hide his year-long unemployment from his family. The man was located by Delhi Police in Ghaziabad and reunited with his family.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the man’s family had approached the police on Sunday, reporting a suspected abduction. This followed the discovery of his car abandoned in Rohini. The man had reportedly left his home on August 3, telling his family he was going to work.
According to the police, family members recounted that around 8:05 PM, the man called his father, stating he would be home shortly. He subsequently informed the family that his vehicle had been involved in a minor collision with an elderly couple near Rohini Sector-28, and that he was taking them to their destination. Minutes later, he made a brief call to his younger brother, during which only the words “Deepu… Deepu… Ruko…” were audible before the call was abruptly disconnected. His mobile phone was subsequently switched off.
Following the family’s search for him, his car was found unattended on the road near Rohini Sector-28. Based on the complaint filed, Shahbad Dairy police registered a case of suspected kidnapping, and an investigation was initiated by the Outer North district police. During the course of the probe, police successfully traced the man near the Kaushambi Metro Station bus stand in Ghaziabad, where he was apprehended and subsequently reunited with his distressed family.
During initial questioning by the authorities, the man confessed that he had been unemployed for approximately one year. He admitted to pretending to leave for work daily to shield his family from the truth about his job status. He also revealed that he had taken out loans from multiple finance companies and was unable to meet the repayment schedules, leading to escalating pressure from recovery agents. The individual expressed that he was unable to cope with the financial stress and feared a confrontation with his family. He stated that he had left his home voluntarily and had been staying at various locations to avoid being located by either his family or the debt collectors.
The police are continuing further investigations into the matter to ascertain all the details surrounding the man’s actions and the extent of his financial obligations.
