SRINAGAR: The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has launched the IFFJK Emerging Filmmakers Competition-2026, marking a significant step towards fostering cinematic talent within Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative is a precursor to the Union Territory’s inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that registrations for the competition commenced on August 6. The program is designed to discover and champion emerging filmmakers from Jammu and Kashmir, offering them a dedicated platform to exhibit their creative vision, storytelling prowess, and technical filmmaking skills.
Competition Details and Eligibility
The competition is exclusively open to individuals who are bona fide residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Applicants must meet the age criterion of being between 18 and 39 years old as of September 1, 2026, and must possess a valid domicile certificate for the region.
Submissions are required to be original short films, with a maximum running time of five minutes. The deadline for filmmakers to submit their entries is August 26, 2026. This stringent time frame underscores the immediate focus on cultivating the region’s film industry.
Theme and Objectives
This year’s competition centers around the theme “Rang-e-Cinema: Frames of a New Jammu & Kashmir.” The theme aims to celebrate the evolving cultural, social, and creative narratives of the region. It encourages young filmmakers to explore and present compelling stories that reflect contemporary Jammu and Kashmir through the medium of cinema.
