Members of the Guest Faculty Assistant Professors’ Association gathered outside Government Mahindra College in Patiala on Wednesday, voicing demands that include the immediate release of outstanding salaries and the regularisation of their services.
The Chenab Times has learned that the protesting faculty members are also seeking their inclusion in the college prospectus and priority in the college timetable. Association leader Hukam Chand, addressing the gathered protesters, stated that the demonstrations would persist until the state government acquiesces to their demands.
These guest faculty members have been serving in Punjab’s government colleges since 2002. Over the years, they have undertaken various responsibilities beyond teaching, including the organisation of National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) camps, cultural events, sports activities, election duties, and the supervision of university examinations.
The association highlighted that many of these faculty members are now past the age limit for applying to government jobs, underscoring their plea for dignity and fair remuneration commensurate with their years of service and contributions to the educational institutions.
