A high-security alert was sounded in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning after a Scorpio vehicle evaded a police checkpoint and fled towards the Nashri area. The vehicle, bearing registration number JK02AK-1743, was travelling from the Srinagar side towards Jammu when it failed to stop at the Chanderkote naka around 3:30 a.m.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that police personnel at the security checkpoint attempted to halt the vehicle, but the driver allegedly ignored the signals and sped away. In response, security forces fired three rounds at the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to immobilize it. Despite the police firing, the Scorpio continued towards Nashri, triggering a large-scale search operation involving the district police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Army.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Arun Gupta, personally visited the spot to oversee the intensified search efforts. The operation culminated with the seizure of the suspicious Scorpio vehicle near Dalwas. The driver of the vehicle, however, is reported to have absconded.

The Ramban police have confirmed the seizure of the vehicle and stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing. SSP Gupta assured that detailed information would be disseminated as the investigation progresses. Security forces have heightened their presence and are conducting thorough searches in the surrounding areas to ascertain the motive behind the driver’s attempt to evade the security checkpoint and to apprehend any potential accomplices.

The incident has raised concerns regarding potential security threats in the region. Authorities are examining all angles of the case, including whether the vehicle was being used for any illicit activities or if it posed a direct threat to security. The registration number of the vehicle is being investigated to trace its owner and any previous records.

The movement of suspicious vehicles and individuals is under strict surveillance, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which is a critical artery for transportation and security in the Union Territory. The quick response of the security forces in recovering the vehicle highlights their commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing any untoward incidents.

Further updates are expected from the Ramban police as their investigation unfolds, with a focus on identifying the occupants of the vehicle and uncovering their intentions. The incident underscores the continuous efforts by security agencies to counter potential threats and ensure the safety of the public in the region.
