SRINAGAR: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Sanjeev Sinha as the Executive Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Vijaypur, Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order on Friday detailing Dr. Sinha’s appointment. He currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at AIIMS New Delhi and will be joining AIIMS Jammu on deputation. This appointment is a significant development for the premier healthcare institution.
Dr. Sinha’s new role will be at Level 15 of the Pay Matrix. He has been appointed for a tenure of three years from the date he assumes charge of his post. Alternatively, his tenure will continue until he reaches the age of 70 years, or until further orders are issued, whichever event occurs earliest.
The ACC also approved the appointment of Lt Gen (Retd) Narendra Kotwal as the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal. Lt Gen Kotwal, who previously held the position of Director of Endocrinology at Paras Health in Panchkula and served as the Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, will be appointed on a contract basis.
These appointments were cleared following a proposal submitted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The leadership changes are expected to bolster the operational capabilities and strategic direction of the respective AIIMS institutions.
The establishment of AIIMS Vijaypur is part of the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). This initiative aims to enhance access to tertiary healthcare services and improve medical education across various regions of the country. The appointment of experienced leadership like Dr. Sinha is crucial for the continued development and optimal functioning of such vital healthcare facilities.
Dr. Sinha’s expertise, gained from his tenure at AIIMS New Delhi, is anticipated to be instrumental in strengthening the leadership at AIIMS Vijaypur. The institution plays a pivotal role in providing advanced medical treatment and fostering medical research and education in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
