SRINAGAR: Authorities have implemented comprehensive, multi-layered security measures across the Kashmir Valley to ensure the peaceful conduct of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, stated that all necessary arrangements are in place, emphasizing the robust security grid maintained by the Jammu and Kashmir Police not only in Srinagar but throughout all districts of the valley.

Security Review and Preparations
IGP Birdi conducted thorough reviews of the security preparedness, including a visit to Balidan Stambh, to assess the operational readiness of the forces. He chaired a security review meeting attended by senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Branch of the Intelligence wing, alongside other allied security agencies. During the meeting, district police chiefs provided updates on the specific preparations and security protocols being implemented in their respective jurisdictions.
The IGP directed officers to intensify area domination operations and patrolling, with a particular focus on sensitive and vulnerable locations. Special attention was also given to strengthening security checkpoints, especially during nighttime, along the entry and exit routes of Srinagar and other key urban centers. Strict vigilance against individuals and elements perceived as inimical to peace and security was also stressed, with an emphasis on enhanced alertness across all operational areas.
Focus on Main Celebration Venue
Particular emphasis was placed on the security arrangements for the main Independence Day function scheduled to be held at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. Officers were instructed to ensure that all preparations for this central event are completed well in advance to guarantee its smooth execution. Surprise checking and frisking operations were carried out in prominent city areas, including Lal Chowk, as part of the intensified security measures.
Investigations into Recent Incidents
Responding to queries about the ongoing investigations into recent attacks in Anantnag and Pulwama, IGP Birdi stated that the investigations are progressing. He indicated that details would be shared with the media at an appropriate time, deferring specific disclosures to maintain the integrity of the investigative process.
Appeal for Public Participation
The police chief appealed to the residents of Kashmir to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in large numbers. He described the event as a public function where the police serve as facilitators and organizers, urging the public to contribute to making the celebrations successful. The IGP reiterated the commitment of the police and security forces to ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for the national observance across the valley.
