A disturbing discovery in the Ladhuka area of Fazilka district has sent ripples of shock through the community after the body of a newborn baby boy was found abandoned on a street on Tuesday morning. The infant had been concealed within a black polythene carry bag.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that a local woman stumbled upon the bag while undertaking her daily routine of cleaning the street adjacent to her residence in the Chandigarh locality of Ladhuka village. Alerted by the discovery, the woman immediately informed the authorities.

Following the report, personnel from the Ladhuka Police Post swiftly arrived at the scene. They took custody of the baby’s body and initiated preliminary investigations. According to police post in-charge Balkar Singh, the body has been transferred to the mortuary at the District Hospital in Fazilka. It awaits a post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed light on the precise cause of death.

The Ladhuka Police have registered a case against unknown individuals under Sections 91 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 91 pertains to the offence of preventing a child from being born alive, while Section 94 deals with the concealment of a birth by secretly disposing of a dead body. These legal provisions indicate the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case of abandonment and potential infanticide.

Investigators are actively pursuing leads to identify the person or persons responsible for leaving the infant in such a vulnerable state. A key element of this investigation involves the scrutiny of available CCTV footage from the vicinity. Police officials hope that by meticulously reviewing surveillance recordings, they will be able to trace the movements of the individual who abandoned the newborn and bring them to justice.

The discovery has prompted widespread concern among residents regarding the circumstances leading to such a tragic event. Local community leaders have appealed for calm and cooperation with the police investigation, emphasizing the need to address the underlying social issues that might contribute to such acts of desperation. The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the truth and ensure accountability.
