A woman who had been lost overnight in the forests of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh was successfully located with the assistance of a drone.
The Chenab Times has learned that Nagadasari Ratnamma, a resident of Obulayapalle village, had ventured into the forest on Monday to collect firewood and subsequently became disoriented. She spent the night under a tree before a coordinated search effort led to her discovery.
The search operation involved personnel from the local police, the Special Branch, and the Forest Department. These teams meticulously combed the area, utilizing available resources to locate the missing woman.
Forest Search and Drone Deployment
The search efforts intensified on Tuesday when it was determined that Nagadasari Ratnamma had not returned home. Reports indicated that she had gone to collect firewood in the dense forest area surrounding her village. As daylight faded on Monday, she found herself unable to navigate her way back and took shelter under a tree for the night.
The challenging terrain and the vast expanse of the forest made manual searching a difficult and time-consuming task. Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the potential risks involved, authorities decided to deploy advanced technology. A drone equipped with surveillance capabilities was brought in to aid the search operation. Drones can cover large areas more quickly and provide aerial perspectives that are invaluable in tracking individuals in difficult landscapes.
Discovery and Safe Return
The drone’s aerial survey proved instrumental in narrowing down the search area. It scanned the forest, looking for any signs of human presence. Eventually, the drone located Nagadasari Ratnamma near the Mamidikona base camp, a significant landmark within the forest area.
Upon identification of her location via the drone, the ground search teams were directed to the spot. Rescuers reached Nagadasari Ratnamma and found her to be safe, although likely disoriented and exhausted from her ordeal. She was then safely escorted out of the forest and reunited with her family.
Officials confirmed that the woman was in stable condition and did not require immediate medical attention beyond assessment at the scene. The incident highlights the effectiveness of technology, such as drones, in enhancing search and rescue operations, particularly in challenging geographical environments. The coordinated efforts of the police, Special Branch, and Forest Department were crucial in ensuring a successful outcome.
