A husband and wife sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a pet pit bull in the Ghuman Nagar locality of Patiala on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when the couple, accompanied by a local property dealer, visited a house in the area to inspect it for potential rental accommodation. As they rang the doorbell, the dog emerged and launched a sudden, aggressive attack.
According to accounts from the scene, despite efforts by local residents to intervene and rescue the pair, the pit bull inflicted multiple bites, causing severe injuries across various parts of their bodies. The injured couple was promptly transported to a private hospital for medical treatment, where they are currently undergoing care.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Municipal Corporation of Patiala has previously issued a ban on the ownership of ferocious dog breeds, which includes pit bulls, as pets. This local directive aligns with broader advisories from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, which had urged states and Union Territories to implement measures against the sale, breeding, and keeping of several aggressive dog breeds. However, the effective implementation of these regulations on the ground continues to present significant challenges.
