SRINAGAR: In a significant administrative move, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has officially accorded quasi-permanent status to Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, who holds the position of Head of the Department of Radio Diagnosis and Imaging at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. Professor Jahangir is currently overseeing the additional charge of Principal at GMC Baramulla.
The decision, aimed at formalizing his service tenure in a gazetted capacity, was communicated through Government Order No. 623-JK(HME) of 2026, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department on August 13.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the declaration of Professor Jahangir’s services as quasi-permanent has been made in accordance with Rule 3(1) and Rule 3-A(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Temporary Service) Rules, 1961. This is further read in conjunction with Schedule IX of the JK Civil Service Regulations, Volume II, which governs the terms and conditions of service for government employees in the Union Territory.
Professor Jahangir’s current responsibilities encompass leading the Department of Radio Diagnosis and Imaging at GMC Srinagar, in addition to his role as the acting Principal of GMC Baramulla. This dual role highlights his administrative capacity and experience within the region’s medical education infrastructure.
The government order was formally issued by M Raju, an Indian Administrative Service officer serving as the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government in the Health and Medical Education Department.
