SRINAGAR: A residential house in the Jamadar Bijhama area of Boniyar, Baramulla district, in north Kashmir, was completely destroyed by a fire on Saturday. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures in the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the house belonged to Bashir Ahmad Badan and Nazir Ahmad Badar, sons of Matwali Badar, who are residents of Bijhama. The cause of the fire is preliminarily suspected to be an electrical short circuit, according to local witnesses.
Upon the outbreak of the blaze, local residents and a team from the Bijhama Police Station immediately rushed to the site. They initiated joint efforts to control the spread of the fire. The swift response from locals and the police helped to contain the flames and prevent them from engulfing neighbouring structures.
However, the efforts to combat the fire were reportedly hampered by the poor condition of the approach road to the affected property. Residents stated that the difficult terrain prevented a fire tender from reaching the location in a timely manner, thereby exacerbating the damage to the house.
The fire resulted in extensive damage to the residential structure, leaving it gutted. No casualties have been reported in the incident. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are expected to follow, though preliminary reports point towards an electrical malfunction. The incident highlights potential challenges in emergency response due to infrastructural limitations in some areas of north Kashmir.
