SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened the 81st meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Rajya Sainik Board, focusing on enhancing welfare initiatives for military veterans, Veer Naris (war widows), and their dependents.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deliberations included crucial aspects of welfare delivery, grievance redressal mechanisms, healthcare access, and strengthening of institutional support. Key discussions also revolved around the proposed establishment of a Zila Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO) in Kishtwar and improving the coordination of pension-related matters for ex-servicemen.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of veterans and their families, emphasizing that all possible efforts would be undertaken to honor their sacrifices and ensure they lead lives of dignity.
A significant point of discussion during the meeting was the empanelment of several prominent healthcare facilities with the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). These include All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu, Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, GMC Doda, and Government Hospital Kupwara. This move aims to significantly improve healthcare access for veterans and their families across various regions.
Further, Lieutenant Governor Sinha chaired a separate meeting of the State Management Committee for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. During this session, various proposals were put forth concerning medical support, infrastructural development, educational opportunities, skill development programs, and outreach activities designed to benefit the ex-servicemen community.
The State Management Committee proposed a series of initiatives aimed at providing comprehensive support. These include educational and career incentives, the deployment of psychological counselors in identified areas to address mental health needs, targeted skill-development support to enhance employability, and improvements to existing welfare infrastructure.
