A case has been registered against five individuals in Varanasi following a complaint by a customer who alleged he was assaulted by an eatery owner after requesting hot samosas. The incident, which reportedly occurred in the Jalupura market, led to the complainant approaching the judiciary after initial attempts to resolve the matter with local police proved unsuccessful.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Chaubeypur police station registered the case last Friday. This action was taken based on court orders, approximately five months after the complainant initially lodged his grievance through the judicial system. The dispute reportedly escalated when the customer, Advocate Shiv Shankar Singh, expressed dissatisfaction with cold samosas and requested them to be heated.

Advocate Shiv Shankar Singh stated that he had been in Chandauli for work in February and stopped at a shop in Jalupura market on his return journey. He ordered two samosas and two pieces of barfi from a shop owned by Gupteshwar Singh. Upon receiving the samosas, Singh found them to be cold and asked the shop employees to heat them. This request allegedly led to an argument with the staff, prompting him to ask for the shop owner to be summoned.

According to Singh’s account, a further altercation ensued with the shopkeeper, Gupteshwar Singh, regarding the demand for hot samosas. The complainant reported that the shopkeeper responded by questioning his authority, allegedly saying, “Are you the collector that you should be given hot samosas?” Following this exchange, Singh claims that the shopkeeper and others present assaulted him.

Singh detailed his efforts to seek redressal, stating that he first approached the local police and subsequently escalated his complaint to the police commissioner’s office. When these avenues did not yield a satisfactory resolution, he decided to pursue the matter through the courts.

In response to the judicial directive, the police have registered a case against the five accused individuals. The charges filed fall under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 19(2) and 115(2) pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt, section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and section 35 related to criminal intimidation, among others. Police officials confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway to ascertain the full details of the incident.
