A charter plane carrying eight people crashed near a remote radar site in western Alaska on Thursday, resulting in no survivors, according to federal officials.

The aircraft, a Cessna 441, departed from Anchorage and was en route to Cape Newenham when it crashed around 12:15 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident. The flight was a civilian-contracted mission carrying eight personnel, with the Alaskan Command stating that search-and-rescue teams had confirmed the fatalities.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations, with the NTSB leading the inquiry. The Cape Newenham facility is a remote military site where landings are restricted to military aircraft and pre-approved charter flights.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis described the situation as a “devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” noting that the individuals on board were “dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment.” The names of the passengers and crew will be released after their next of kin have been notified.

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska expressed her condolences, acknowledging the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, NTSB, Alaska State Troopers, and the Rescue Coordination Center in responding to the incident. She stated, “Alaska is praying for those on board, their loved ones, and the team at Security Aviation.”

The incident occurred near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center initiated a search and rescue mission following a report of an aircraft incident in the vicinity.
