The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience continued hot and humid weather conditions until the end of August. Intermittent rainfall, including brief intense showers, is also forecast across various regions.

Weather Department Issues Forecast for Remainder of August

The Meteorological Centre has predicted scattered to widespread light to moderate rain or thundershowers from August 21 to 22, with the possibility of intense showers in isolated areas, particularly during the early morning and afternoon. Following this, from August 23 onwards, heat and humidity are expected to return, interspersed with brief spells of rain and thundershowers.

Katra recorded the highest rainfall in the preceding 24 hours, registering 39 mm, while Gulmarg received 14.2 mm. Other areas like Pahalgam, Kukernag, Batote, and Banihal also reported showers. In Srinagar, the maximum temperature settled at 29 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature at a muggy 21 degrees, which is 3.6 degrees above normal.

The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable and hilly areas to exercise caution during intense rainfall spells, warning of potential heavy showers. Farmers have been advised to proceed with harvesting and other agricultural activities based on local weather conditions.

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest that intermittent rain showers may continue to be possible, especially in the northern parts of Kashmir. By August 29, rain showers are anticipated in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, potentially extending from the Jammu region into Kashmir during the evening and night. By August 30, another spell of rain is expected in many areas, with continued rainfall possible in some parts of Kashmir throughout the afternoon before improvement is expected from late afternoon.

Daytime temperatures in the Kashmir plains could drop to approximately 18-23°C if rain persists throughout the day on August 29. The overall intensity of the rain might be lower than on August 29, with potential improvements in temperature expected from the late afternoon onwards.

The forecast indicates that minimum temperatures are likely to remain near normal across the country. There is no probability of a heat wave over any part of the country during this period, nor are warm nights expected.
