JAMMU, Aug 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has emphasized that security forces alone cannot eradicate militancy and stressed the indispensable role of a comprehensive, whole-of-society approach in achieving this goal. He highlighted the necessity of community solidarity in combating not only militancy but also substance abuse and corruption, while simultaneously fostering economic growth and a spiritual renaissance within Jammu and Kashmir.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Sinha made these remarks on Friday while attending an event in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district. He had gathered to lay the foundation stone for the Amriteshwar Sarovar under the ‘Jan Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ initiative. During his visit, the Lieutenant Governor also offered prayers at the Shri Amriteshwar Shiv temple.
Addressing a public gathering, Sinha articulated his vision for tackling the multifaceted challenges facing the Union Territory. He stated, “India is going through a great spiritual revival. This cultural wave is felt across Jammu-Kashmir, bringing people closer together and strengthening our community bonds.” This sentiment underscores a belief in the power of shared cultural identity to foster unity and resilience.
The Lieutenant Governor urged the residents to maintain a heightened state of vigilance against individuals and groups with anti-national intentions. He implored citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities and to collectively isolate those who sympathize with militant elements. This call to action places a significant responsibility on the community to be active participants in maintaining peace and security.
Elaborating on the fight against militancy, Sinha asserted, “Security forces alone cannot defeat terrorism. Eradicating this threat demands a whole-of-society approach. United societal effort is required along with police and security agencies to dismantle the illicit financial and logistical webs of narco-terror networks.” This statement signifies a strategic shift towards a more integrated and collaborative security paradigm.
Sinha further noted the significant progress achieved in degrading militancy and transforming the security landscape of the region. He attributed this improvement to a concerted effort involving the Army, various security forces, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the local administration, and the active participation of the residents. He recalled a past sentiment that the national flag might not find willing hands to be carried in Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting it with the present reality where the tricolour is hoisted with pride by many.
In response to grievances and demands put forth by the local population, the Lieutenant Governor assured that the administration would make sincere efforts to address public concerns and fulfill local infrastructure requirements. This commitment aims to build trust and demonstrate the administration’s responsiveness to the needs of the people.
