SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is set to continue experiencing hot and humid weather conditions until the end of August, with temperatures expected to remain three to four degrees Celsius above normal. The Meteorological Department has forecast isolated intense showers at some locations, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours, offering minimal respite.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the weather department has ruled out any significant weather activity over the coming week, with no prolonged spells of rain anticipated. Brief, isolated showers are likely to punctuate otherwise hot and humid days, especially in the southern parts of Kashmir and the Jammu division.
The Meteorological Department indicated that the prevailing weather conditions would persist through August. Officials stated that while brief intense showers might occur in parts of south Kashmir, including Kulgam and Shopian, areas like Katra, Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch in the Jammu division could also witness localized heavy showers. However, these are not expected to develop into continuous or prolonged rainfall.
“In the coming days, especially during late-night and early-morning hours, there are chances of brief intense showers at some places and even heavy showers at a few places, especially in the Jammu division,” an official from the MeT department stated. The department clarified that the possibility of showers would continue intermittently, rather than developing into a consistent rainfall pattern.
For Kashmir, the forecast includes brief showers in some districts, particularly during the early morning and morning hours. Isolated showers might also occur towards the late afternoon and evening. “Early morning, morning hours and late afternoon and evening hours have some possibility of brief showers,” the official added. The weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid across both the Valley and the Jammu division.
The MeT has forecast a slight increase in daytime temperatures over the next few days. While minimum temperatures might experience some fluctuation, a significant drop is not expected before the close of August. “Day temperatures are likely to rise slightly in the coming days,” the official said. Regarding minimum temperatures, a slight fall is possible, but “until the end of August, there will be no significant fall,” the official noted.
Temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir are projected to stay approximately three to four degrees Celsius above the usual for this period. A more substantial change in temperatures, with a decline in both maximum and minimum readings, is anticipated from the first or second week of September onwards. “From the first week of September or second week of September onwards, a fall in temperatures, both maximum and minimum, can be seen across Jammu and Kashmir,” the official stated.
Presently, the weather outlook remains largely stable, with isolated brief showers expected to be the primary form of precipitation. The focus areas for potential brief intense showers include parts of south Kashmir and the Jammu division, while a broader seasonal decrease in temperatures is not expected until September.
