A 26-year-old Indian Army personnel, who was stationed at Hisar Cantonment in Haryana, was discovered deceased in a hotel room in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, police confirmed on Saturday. The Army jawan was identified as Anil Sai Tejja Vallepu, a resident of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that police received a PCR call at the South Campus police station around 12:19 pm on Saturday, reporting the apparent suicide. Upon arrival at the hotel in Satya Niketan, law enforcement officials found the jawan hanging from a ceiling fan.

The crime scene was subsequently inspected by the Crime Team, and a suicide note was recovered from the hotel room. According to police officials, the note did not attribute blame to any individual for the jawan’s decision to end his life. Anil Sai Tejja Vallepu had checked into the hotel on August 19.

The body has been transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for further necessary procedures and to facilitate the completion of legal formalities. Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new criminal code that replaced the Indian Penal Code, are being carried out as per legal provisions in connection with the death.

The family of the deceased jawan has been informed about the incident, and the Indian Army has also been notified. The circumstances leading to the suicide are currently under investigation by the authorities.

The Indian Army, a key pillar of national security, maintains stringent protocols for the well-being of its personnel. Incidents of suicide among military personnel, while rare, are taken with utmost seriousness by the armed forces. Investigations typically involve a thorough review of the individual’s personal circumstances, professional environment, and any reported grievances.

The location of the incident, Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi, is a locality known for its proximity to educational institutions and a mix of residential and commercial establishments. Hotels in such areas often accommodate travellers, including personnel on temporary duty or transit.

The recovery of a suicide note is a critical piece of evidence in such cases, providing potential insights into the deceased’s state of mind and the reasons behind their actions. However, the absence of any named individuals in the note suggests the investigation will focus on broader contributing factors.

The process under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will involve formal inquiries and potentially a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. The cooperation of the deceased’s family and the military authorities is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the mental health challenges that individuals, regardless of their profession, can face. Support systems and access to mental health resources are vital for all members of society, particularly those in high-stress professions like the armed forces.
