Srinagar, August 23: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted a mixed weather pattern for Jammu and Kashmir, characterized by hot and humid conditions interspersed with spells of rain, extending until August 31. Residents can expect fluctuating weather conditions across the Union Territory in the coming days.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Met department has forecast generally hot and humid weather conditions for Jammu and Kashmir between August 24 and August 28. During this period, scattered areas are likely to experience brief spells of light to moderate rain, potentially accompanied by thundershowers, particularly during the early morning and afternoon hours. This forecast indicates a period of variable weather rather than continuous rainfall.
Looking ahead to the latter part of the month, from August 29 to August 31, the spokesperson indicated an increase in rainfall activity. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated at many places across the region. Notably, some areas, especially within the Jammu Division, could witness brief but intense showers during the early morning and afternoon periods. This suggests a potential for localized heavier downpours as the month draws to a close.
The overall weather trend from Monday, August 24, through August 31, is expected to remain generally mixed. While hot and humid conditions will prevail for extended periods, the intermittent brief showers are likely to provide some respite from the heat. This combination of high temperatures and humidity, punctuated by rainfall, is a common characteristic of the season in the region.
The recent weather patterns have already seen significant rainfall in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Over the last 24 hours, Jammu recorded the highest rainfall at 66mm. Udhampur followed with 56mm, and Poonch registered 45mm of rainfall. In the Kashmir Valley, areas in the southern district of Anantnag, specifically Kukernag and Qazigund, received 42mm and 32.6mm of rainfall, respectively. These figures highlight the localized nature of the recent precipitation events.
The forecast from the Meteorological Centre provides residents and authorities with advance information to prepare for the upcoming weather conditions. The fluctuating temperatures and rainfall patterns will influence daily life, agricultural activities, and local infrastructure. Authorities will be monitoring the situation closely, especially in areas prone to waterlogging or landslides during periods of intense rainfall.
The extended forecast suggests a continued pattern of warm days with chances of rain, requiring residents to stay informed about the latest updates from the Met department. The presence of humidity along with rainfall is typical for this time of year in the region, and the forecast offers no significant deviation from these expected conditions. Preparedness for both hot weather and sudden showers will be key for the coming weeks.
