An FIR has been registered against journalist Abhishek Upadhyay in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, following allegations of a road rage incident. Upadhyay, who operates the YouTube channel ‘Top Secret’, has asserted that the case is fabricated and linked to his journalistic work exposing alleged corruption within the state government.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that a police team visited Upadhyay’s residence late on August 20, informing him of the registered case at Indirapuram police station. The allegations cited in the FIR involve road rage and abusive behaviour. According to Upadhyay’s account, the purported incident occurred on August 18 near Shipra Mall, involving a motorcyclist who allegedly came into contact with his car. He stated that the individual subsequently contacted the police emergency helpline, leading to the registration of the FIR.

Upadhyay expressed his belief that the police visit might have been intended for his arrest and challenged the Ghaziabad Police to produce CCTV footage of the alleged incident. He reiterated his claim that the case was fabricated and suggested it was a retaliatory measure due to his reporting on corruption. Previously, Upadhyay has published reports detailing alleged irregularities concerning donations to the Ram temple in Ayodhya and claims of corruption within various departments of the Uttar Pradesh government.

The journalist also stated that his car had been confiscated. He mentioned that the vehicle was a gift from a former employer, given to him for his coverage of the Ukraine war. Upadhyay further indicated that he had not received a copy of the FIR from the authorities. In support of his claims, he shared a compilation of ten of his prominent reports on alleged corruption within Uttar Pradesh departments on his YouTube channel.

The development has garnered attention from political figures. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Pawan Pandey, and Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Bharti have publicly voiced their support for Upadhyay through posts on the social media platform X. As of the latest reports, the police have not released any official statement regarding the matter or Upadhyay’s allegations.
