NEW DELHI, Aug 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called for the integration of artificial intelligence in analysing intelligence data to effectively tackle evolving national security challenges, emphasizing a stringent approach to counter infiltration.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Shah made these remarks while inaugurating the two-day ninth National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference-2026 in the national capital. The conference, held in a hybrid format, brings together approximately 850 senior security and police officials from across the country, alongside key intelligence and law enforcement agency chiefs.
During the inaugural session, the Home Minister directed security agencies to leverage AI-based analysis of information available on Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) platforms. The objective is to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored to address a spectrum of national security threats. Shah also underscored the importance of implementing the anti-terror policy, named ‘PRAHAAR,’ developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, stressing the need for comprehensive training for its effective deployment.
Furthermore, Shah urged the agencies to accelerate legal proceedings against fugitives involved in anti-terror cases. This includes expediting trials by utilizing provisions for trial in absentia and adopting a holistic and integrated approach when investigating cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The focus is on ensuring that investigations are thorough and that legal mechanisms are robustly employed.
The conference agenda for the first day included detailed discussions on critical national security aspects such as counter-terrorism strategies, the fusion, analysis, and operationalization of intelligence through the MAC, a strategic vision for narcotics control, the detection and deportation of illegal migrants, and a policy framework to combat cyber-crime and proxy warfare. The ongoing deliberations also touch upon safeguarding the blue economy, understanding the implications of information warfare on national security, and the necessity of a bio-security framework.
Prior to the conference commencement, Amit Shah paid homage to Intelligence Bureau personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Column. This gesture recognized their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity.
The NSS Conference, initiated in 2021, is conducted annually in a hybrid format, a practice established following the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The core objective of this gathering is to identify innovative solutions to pressing national security issues by pooling the extensive field experience of officers with the expertise of domain specialists.
The conference is attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood, and Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Parag Jain, among other senior officials, deputy national security advisors, heads of paramilitary forces, and Directors General of Police from various state police forces.
