Srinagar, August 25: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, convened a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to meticulously assess and bolster security arrangements for the upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), as well as other significant events scheduled across the Union Territory. These forthcoming events include the Friday following Eid Milad-un-Nabi, Raksha Bandhan, and various other celebrations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting saw participation from senior police officials including the Special DGP Coordination J&K, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, the IGP Jammu Zone, all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), and all District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from across J&K. Also present were the SSP PCR Kashmir and the Assistant Inspector General (CT & Int) PHQ, alongside other key senior officers. The discussions focused on a comprehensive review of security preparedness, with detailed deliberations on deployment strategies, effective crowd management techniques, and robust traffic regulation measures, all aimed at ensuring the secure, peaceful, and seamless conduct of these anticipated events.
During the meeting, the DGP underscored the imperative of maintaining heightened vigilance across the Union Territory. He emphasized the need for proactive policing and the implementation of foolproof security arrangements, with a particular focus on major shrines, mosques, and other significant religious locations. Special attention was directed towards sites like Dargah Hazratbal and other prominent religious places, where large congregations and nightlong prayers are expected. Officers were explicitly directed to ensure adequate security coverage and to foster close coordination among all field formations to enable a timely and effective response to any developing situation.
Furthermore, the DGP instructed officers to enhance surveillance operations at all sensitive and vulnerable locations throughout the Union Territory. He stressed the importance of ensuring effective personnel deployment in strategic areas and those experiencing high footfall of people. The DGP also mandated the establishment of effective traffic regulation and route management plans around major religious sites and along the routes of processions to facilitate unimpeded movement for devotees and participants.
In addition to preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the DGP also reviewed the security arrangements pertaining to the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival. He issued directives for advance security and traffic management plans to be put in place for markets and temples, alongside instructions to intensify security and surveillance measures at prominent religious places to ensure public safety during the festivities.
The meeting concluded with a reiteration from the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir that all necessary security arrangements must be meticulously put in place well in advance of the scheduled events. This proactive approach is intended to guarantee the peaceful, safe, and secure conduct of all forthcoming celebrations and observances across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
