The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is actively collaborating with the Nepalese government to expedite the rescue and relief operations for Indian citizens affected by severe flash floods that recently impacted the Himalayan nation. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the ongoing efforts to ensure the well-being of its nationals caught in the calamity.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the embassy had previously issued emergency contact numbers for individuals seeking assistance or information concerning Indian nationals affected by the floods. These numbers were made available to facilitate communication and provide support during the crisis.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, announced on the social media platform X that the Embassy of India in Nepal was in close coordination with the Nepalese government for the swift rescue and relief of Indian nationals impacted by the flash floods. He emphasized the collaborative approach being taken to address the situation.
The severe flash floods, which originated in Tibet and subsequently swept through central Nepal districts, have resulted in a significant loss of life and a large number of missing persons. Reports indicate that at least 46 individuals have died, and nearly 500 people are currently unaccounted for, including 105 Indian nationals. Security officials have confirmed the recovery of 46 bodies from the flood-affected areas.
According to earlier statements from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 384 travelers, comprising 291 foreigners and 93 Nepalese nationals, were reported missing in the Rasuwa floods. Among the missing foreigners, a substantial number were Indian tourists, with 105 Indian citizens and 37 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) listed. The remaining missing individuals were from countries including the USA, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, and the Netherlands.
The Embassy of India in Nepal reiterated its commitment to the rescue and relief efforts. In a separate communication, the embassy stated that it has been consistently engaged with the relevant authorities of the Nepalese government to ensure the prompt rescue and relief for Indian nationals affected by the flash floods. The statement highlighted that rescue and relief operations are being progressively strengthened in coordination with the Government of Nepal, underscoring a unified approach to the crisis management.
