New Delhi, August 26: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the results for 84 subjects of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) are scheduled to be released this week. The agency also confirmed that final answer keys for the UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, and ICAR AIEEA (PG) and AICE (PhD) 2026 examinations will be published concurrently.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the NTA advised candidates to rely solely on official communications from the agency for updates regarding the results and answer keys.
Background of Re-examinations
The NTA had previously ordered fresh examinations for candidates who appeared for the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers earlier this year. This decision followed an assessment by an expert committee, which identified factual, typographical, translation, and language-related errors within the question papers for these specific subjects. The NTA had released the initial UGC-NET answer key on August 16, nearly two months after the examination, and issued a special notice concerning the identified discrepancies in the Sociology, Commerce, and English papers.
Subsequently, on the same day, the agency announced that the examinations for these three subjects would be conducted again in September. Candidates are not required to pay any additional examination fee for these re-examinations, which are slated to take place on September 9 and 10.
Purpose of UGC-NET
The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a crucial examination conducted by the NTA across India. Its primary objective is to ascertain the eligibility of Indian nationals for academic positions. Specifically, it determines suitability for the role of Assistant Professor and for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various universities and colleges throughout the country. The examination assesses a candidate’s proficiency and knowledge in their chosen subject area, a prerequisite for entering academic careers in higher education institutions.
