Uttar Pradesh has provided over 9.3 lakh government jobs to its youth in the past nine years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Tuesday. He further stated that the state government aims to issue appointment letters for an additional one lakh government jobs within the next six months. Addressing a program where appointment letters were distributed to 3,446 technical assistants and 126 mandi secretaries in the agriculture department, Adityanath highlighted the transparent and merit-based recruitment processes implemented by his administration.
The Chief Minister asserted that under his government, recruitment has moved from being a “dream” to a reality, emphasizing that commissions and recruitment boards now deliver appointments based on merit, without discrimination, and in compliance with reservation norms. He contrasted the current transparent system with the pre-2017 era, alleging that past recruitment drives were marred by corruption, nepotism, and significant delays, often involving “chacha-bhatija” and other “Mahabharata-style families,” a veiled reference to political opponents.
Adityanath further elaborated on the government’s commitment to youth welfare, noting that such appointments contribute to the state’s economic development and per capita income. He also touched upon overseas employment opportunities, mentioning that approximately 5,000 individuals from Uttar Pradesh are working in Israel with monthly earnings of ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh, including accommodation and food.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the agricultural sector’s growth, stating that it has the potential for 30% growth and has seen its agricultural growth rate increase from 8% to 18%. He announced the launch of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park in Lucknow and mentioned that ₹3.25 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers’ accounts.
Speaking on the broader employment landscape, Adityanath claimed that since 2017, over 9.30 lakh government jobs have been filled in Uttar Pradesh. He also mentioned plans for future recruitments, including 1,37,000 vacancies for teachers and 1,62,000 for the police department. The government is also promoting entrepreneurship, with schemes like the ODOP Yojana generating 2.5 lakh jobs and the CM Yuva Swarozgar Yojana supporting over 2.2 lakh businesses. The state aims to transform into the country’s largest startup and innovation hub with a new startup policy.
The Chief Minister challenged the opposition to question the transparency of the job selection process, stating that not a single appointment has faced scrutiny since 2017. He stressed that when the most deserving candidates are selected without discrimination, the entire state benefits from their talent and energy. He also noted that the government is following a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and will take strict action against those involved in cheating and malpractice during recruitment processes.
In addition to government jobs, Adityanath noted that the state has generated approximately 6.5 lakh government jobs, 3.75 lakh contractual positions, and 2 crore jobs in the private sector and MSMEs since 2017, reducing the unemployment rate from 16% to 2.4%. The government is also expanding training beyond conventional trades to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and drone technology, with these programs to be extended to districts like Mahoba, Chitrakoot, and Sonbhadra. The state’s industrial ecosystem supports around 96 lakh MSME units, and traditional sectors are receiving renewed policy support.
