Baramulla, August 28: Security forces have recovered two hand grenades from an individual during a routine checkpoint operation in the Wussan Bangil area of Kunzer, located in the Baramulla district of North Kashmir. The recovery was made during a joint operation involving multiple security agencies.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the naka checking was being carried out by a combined team comprising personnel from Police Station Kunzer, the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kunzer, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 176 Battalion, and soldiers from the Army’s 2 Rashtriya Rifles. The checkpoint was established to enhance security and monitor movement in the region.
During the operation, as security personnel were checking vehicles and pedestrians, one man reportedly attempted to evade the checkpoint upon noticing the presence of the security forces. However, the individual was quickly apprehended by the personnel at the scene.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Shakir Nabi Lone, a resident of Hardu Aboora in the Kunzer area. A subsequent personal search of Lone resulted in the alleged recovery of two hand grenades from his possession.
Following the discovery, an First Information Report (FIR) numbered 115/2026 has been registered against the individual at Police Station Kunzer. The case has been filed under the relevant sections of the law, and further legal proceedings are expected.
Authorities have stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing to ascertain the source of the grenades and any potential links or intentions of the arrested individual. The recovery highlights the continued efforts by security forces to maintain peace and prevent subversive activities in the sensitive region.
