A 50-year-old teacher at a government composite school in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district has been arrested in connection with the alleged molestation of a Class 5 student. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the student’s mother with the local police.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Sunday against the accused teacher, identified as Manoj Rai. The charges invoke relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The alleged incident occurred earlier in the week, on Thursday, when the minor student attended classes at the composite school. The school is situated in a village falling under the jurisdiction of the Sukhpara police station.
According to police reports, the accused teacher allegedly committed obscene acts and molested the student within the school premises. Station House Officer (SHO) Ratnesh Dubey confirmed the arrest of the teacher, stating that the police have taken the accused into custody. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
District Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Manish Kumar Singh acknowledged awareness of the serious allegations. In response, Singh has formally requested a detailed report from the concerned Block Education Officer. Singh further indicated that departmental action will be initiated against the accused teacher once the report is submitted and reviewed. The authorities have emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students within educational institutions.
The incident has drawn attention to the safety measures in place at government schools and the need for prompt and thorough investigation of such allegations. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaced the Indian Penal Code, and the POCSO Act are designed to provide robust legal protection to children against sexual abuse and exploitation. The swift arrest of the accused underscores the legal framework’s intent to address such crimes with urgency.
The Sukhpara police station is handling the investigation, collecting evidence, and recording statements from relevant parties. The school administration has been alerted to the situation, and further measures may be considered to prevent any recurrence. The community in Ballia district has expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the importance of a secure learning environment for all children.
The District Basic Education Department plays a crucial role in overseeing the functioning of schools and the conduct of teachers. Their inquiry and subsequent departmental action will run parallel to the criminal investigation initiated by the police. This dual approach aims to ensure both legal accountability and administrative repercussions for the accused teacher.
Uttar Pradesh, like other states, has been actively working to strengthen child protection mechanisms. This case serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that persist and the continuous vigilance required from all stakeholders, including educators, parents, and law enforcement agencies, to safeguard minors. The legal proceedings are expected to follow due process, with the court determining the final outcome based on the evidence presented.
The primary goal of the authorities is to ensure justice for the victim and to uphold the sanctity of educational institutions as safe spaces for learning and development. The arrest of the teacher is a significant step in the ongoing investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses through the legal system.
