SRINAGAR: Sat Sharma, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir, has sharply criticized the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of failing to deliver on development promises and of attempting to divert public attention from its shortcomings. Addressing a protest gathering at the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Sharma asserted that the people have made their judgment on the current administration’s performance.
Sharma stated, “Either they should work during the remaining three years of their term or they should leave the chair.” He further criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remarks concerning the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Sharma, the chief minister should recognize the Prime Minister’s standing and exercise patience for the impact of his statements to materialize.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Sharma also targeted the administration’s developmental record, stating that expected progress had not been achieved during the government’s two-year tenure. He alleged that attempts were being made to misdirect public focus, warning that such actions would not be forgiven by the electorate.
The BJP leader also accused the ruling National Conference government of effectively providing a “clean chit” to Pakistan in the aftermath of incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharma made these remarks while addressing a press conference in Srinagar. He dismissed as a “fabricated narrative” Omar Abdullah’s claims of having an option to align with the BJP in 2024, challenging Abdullah to publicly confirm any such offer or apologize for misleading the public.
Sharma further claimed that more than 10,000 BJP workers and members of the public had assembled at Lal Chowk for the protest. He highlighted that this location, once a site where the hoisting of the Tricolour was allegedly prevented, now hosted a large, peaceful gathering determined to hold the government accountable.
In a separate development, Sat Sharma had previously been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Jammu West constituency in 2014 and served as a cabinet minister. He also holds the position of Rajya Sabha MP representing Jammu and Kashmir. The Omar Abdullah government, which came to power following the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, is a coalition led by the National Conference with support from the Congress and other allies. The administration also includes figures such as Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and ministers like Satish Sharma, who won as an independent.
