Jammu, September 5: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a fresh chargesheet against 10 individuals in connection with the alleged misappropriation and diversion of over Rs 1.38 crore from the Sub-Treasury Dharmari in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the supplementary chargesheet was presented before the Court of Reasi’s Chief Judicial Magistrate. The case, initially registered in 2024, pertains to alleged manipulation of the Treasury-Net system and the preparation and use of forged bills and vouchers under pension and National Pension System (NPS) heads, leading to the alleged diversion of government funds.

The case was first registered at Arnas Police Station following a complaint lodged by Reasi District Treasury Officer Qamar Rehman. Subsequently, the investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu. The investigating agency undertook a detailed examination and scrutiny of treasury records, bank account transactions, and relevant bills and vouchers associated with the case.

During the course of the investigation, the spokesperson stated that the relevant bills and vouchers underwent forensic examination. The forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, combined with other documentary and oral evidence gathered, indicated that the questioned bills and vouchers were allegedly prepared by the principal accused individuals.

The investigation also focused on examining signatures appearing on the relevant documents and their association with the officials involved. Based on the evidence collected, offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code have been established against three principal accused: Ali Hussain Shah, Balbir Singh, and Ajeet Kumar. The Crime Branch further established offences under relevant sections of law against seven additional accused persons, identified as Arshad-e-Azam, Abrar-e-Azam, Rubeena Kousar, Mohd Rafiq, Shokat Ali, Mohd Ashraf, and Nasib Mohammad, for their alleged dishonest receipt and retention of government funds.

The investigation remains open to trace any further diversion of government funds and to ascertain the potential involvement of other individuals in the alleged fraud.
