Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir: A 60-year-old man died on Sunday after being struck by a truck in the Chankhan area of Sopore, located in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Ganaie, a resident of Untoo Hamam in Sopore.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the incident occurred as Ganaie had reportedly just alighted from a tonga when a truck allegedly ran over him. The collision resulted in critical injuries, leading to his on-the-spot death.
The accident has caused widespread grief in the area, with locals expressing sorrow over the untimely demise. The incident has also prompted renewed concerns among residents regarding road safety measures, particularly concerning the movement of heavy vehicles through populated localities.
Following the accident, Ganaie’s body was transferred to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Sopore to undergo medico-legal formalities. After the completion of these procedures, the body was released to the family for the performance of the last rites.
Authorities have confirmed that the police have commenced proceedings to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. The investigation aims to ascertain the precise details of the accident and any contributing factors.
